One of the first figures people learn in tango and still can hold so many secrets after years of practice!
Ochos are one the mother structures in Tango Argentino, from which all the rest departs. Highly undervalued, as most schools reduce them to a figure for students to memorize.
This mini-course is part of our broader course on the Fundamentals of Tango Argentino, which helps you build a GOOD foundation for your tango. Paving the path for better flow and quality in your individual and partner skills for this dance.
This course is for you if:
✨ you have no clue what an ocho is (but know already how to walk together with a dance partner in a tango embrace).
✨ you already studied ochos and weren’t explained how they work (or need a recap). Pro tip: If you learned them by copying-memorizing your role, there’s a high chance they won’t work with everyone in a milonga and to struggle to use them in improvisation.
✨ you manage to do them but don’t get the flow yet. E.g. overusing your arms, needing to hold on your partner to keep your balance, putting too much effort in pivoting (or not even aware of what pivots are), dancing them “alone” instead of in connection with your dance partner…
Pro tip: If you’ve been dancing tango for a short-medium time, there’s a high chance you do some or all of these mistakes without noticing. In the best case that you don’t, then it’s time to work on their aesthetics. The course covers all these layers.
✨ you learned only one or two types of ochos and think that’s it… Come discover otherwise!
Let’s dive deep on the mechanics of ochos for both roles, their variations and options to accompany them. Training both individual and partner technique, with emphasis on developing improvisational skills as it’s the core of Tango Argentino.
Join with or without a dance partner.
You’re welcome to learn the role(s) of your choice / both.
